Specialties: Oregon Humane Society (OHS) provides pet adoption services, shelters surrendered or homeless cats and dogs, teaches responsible pet care, behavior and training -- and reduces pet over-population through its low-cost Spay and Neuter Clinic. OHS is a non-profit organization that relies on donor support and fees to accomplish its mission. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and includes over 200 staff members, and 1,000+ volunteers who serve thousands of animals between the Portland and Salem campuses each year. Established in 1868. Oregon Humane Society (OHS) was founded in 1868 by noted humanitarian Thomas Lamb Eliot, OHS is the fourth-oldest humane society in the nation. Eliot initially established OHS to stop the neglect and abuse of draft animals. The mission expanded to include companion animals and, until 1933, orphaned children. The Oregon Humane Society Salem Campus (former Willamette Humane Society) was founded in 1968. They officially merged with Oregon Humane Society in July 2022.
