Shaping the future of maritime safety: This year, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) focuses on the crucial role of women in ensuring maritime safety worldwide, while highlighting the changing attitudes towards gender in the industry. Observed globally on 18 May every year, Women in Maritime Day seeks to raise the profile of women in maritime, while promoting their recruitment, retention and sustained employment in the sector.At Gram Car Carriers, we seek to foster a diverse and inclusive workforce and firmly believe that diversity enhances learning, understanding and innovation. We proudly promote equal opportunities for all. The Global Maritime Forum’s All Aboard Alliance aims to foster inclusivity and equity within the maritime industry while addressing the challenges faced by women at sea. 🌊 As part of its Diversity@Sea initiative, the All Aboard Alliance published a report entitled ‘15 Key Pain Points for Women at Sea’, detailing the vast array of challenges confronting women in maritime roles, from gender-based professional hurdles to social barriers.👯♀️ As we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us celebrate the remarkable achievements of women in the maritime industry while recognising the formidable journey still ahead. Gender #equity and #diversity are incredibly important for the transport industry, and many other industries like ours that are typically male oriented. I was very pleased to be able to attend yesterday's National Women in Transport networking lunch alongside Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia members and colleagues. Legacy effects of conventional gender roles and stereotypes still infiltrate our workplaces, policies, choices, and behaviors.
