I recently attended a Mainfreight Induction Day and had a great time meeting some fantastic people, and learning about the company’s culture. We toured the Tauranga branch, learned about Mainfreight’s history, and got a good look at how they do things. The induction gave me a better understanding of the different departments and the supply chain process. Maersk Group is planning to cut 10,000 Jobs but was it needed ?Maersk's is selling cheapest rates to African routs. Everyone will think that it must be getting lot of volume and making profit in larger volumes via #Economy Of #scale.But Guess What ?#Maersk is operating it's vassels to African continent in loss. And the interesting fact is that Top management knows it. Maersk is selling it's freight approx $40-80 less than CMA and MSC just to disrupt the market. CMA had to halt a few of it's services because they don't want to operate in loss. CMA has been loss ridden for almost a decade so they understand the challenge that it's really hard to bounce back once the market dynamics are set against you.After doing this Maersk shows loss and cuts jobs. But what is the real story .Real story is that Maersk is applying AI Artificial intelligence in multiple nodes of shipping business. Rates calculation has already been done 100% via AI at present in Maersk results in no need for manual rate approval by employees. Introduction of Bill Of Lading can be printed by customers end via website has been done first by Maersk only. After implementing AI Maersk need to fire people but it may create a havoc in the employees.So Maersk operated vassels in loss keeping the rates down, which will fetch more customer base.
