Confidants are the main social aspect of the game. When you are not spending time in dungeons, almost everything you do in the real world will have the eventual goal of advancing a Confidant. Each Confidant is sorted into Suits of a Tarot deck, or Arcana, and this becomes relevant in the dungeons as higher Confidant ranks allow you to create more powerful Personas and gain buffed abilities.

For this trophy you will need to rank up one Confidant to the max rank, which is 10. You only need to do this to one of the Confidant lines, there is no requirement in this trophy list to advance all of them to the maximum rank.

Confidants have ten ranks and there are a number of ways they are advanced, chiefly by spending time in a social setting with the person that corresponds to each Arcana. You will accrue points in doing this, and having enough points is a requirement to rank up the Confidant. You will get additional points from picking the dialogue options that the character resonates with the most, usually by agreeing with them or showing the person that you’re listening and contributing.

The reason these points are important is that, without the optimal amount of points, you may end up spending time with a character that doesn't actually advance their Confidant; you just spend time with them and gain three points by default. In order to reduce the amount of times this happens to as few as possible, please seek the best dialogue options.

When spending time with characters, be sure to have a Persona in your stock of the Arcana that matches the character. Doing so will increase all social points earned during the Confidant scenes by one. This includes the initial three points for just hanging out with the Confidant, plus any points earned from picking the dialogue choices they like most. For example, having a Slime, of the Chariot Arcana in your stock will increase points when hanging out with Ryuji Sakamoto.

Additionally, Fortune Confidant rank 5 gives you the ability Affinity Reading. Paying for this reading increases the amount of points you accrue when spending time with a character. It can be used once per day. Additionally, these additional points can turn a hangout that doesn't rank up the Confidant up, into one that does, which saves a lot of free time in the long run.

For players returning from Persona 5, the Justice Confidant has been modified. It is no longer fully automatic, instead the first eight ranks are given the same treatment as any other social Confidant, with the protagonist hanging out with Goro Akechi during the evenings. The final two ranks are still tied to the story, being ranked up during events you may be familiar with involving the Cruiser Palace.

Also for returning players, keep in mind that some of the Personas have been shuffled around in regards to what Arcana they correspond to. For example, Nigi Mitama is now of the Councillor Arcana, rather than the Temperance Arcana.

Some Confidants are advanced by the story with no further input from the player. One Confidant, being Caroline & Justine of the Strength Arcana, is ranked up by fulfilling fusion tasks they set out for you. Essentially this means creating Personas with specific abilities.

As the Fool, Magician and Judgment Arcana Confidant lines are ranked up entirely automatically, as long as you are on the path to the true ending, you will not miss this trophy. Aside from this, it is difficult to miss this trophy if you’re not actively avoiding Confidants. As there are hundreds of free time sessions in the year and it takes a minimum of only ten to full rank up a Confidant, you will likely finish several of these in one playthrough.

Caroline and Justine's Confidant line requires that you create Personas in the Velvet Room that have specific moves to their specification. You can do this either by finding the optimal fusion ingredients, which have the appropriate moves, or by gaining skill cards and using them on Personas they ask for.
