Noxzema Clean Moisture Makeup Removal Cloths: An Interesting Scent-sory Experience (1)

Um…someone was straight-up TRIPPIN’ in the beauty lab when they decided to add a strong camphor/menthol/eucalyptus scent to these new Noxzema Clean Moisture Makeup Removal Cloths (about $4 for a pack of 25).

I don’t like to poke fun at suspect beauty products because of all the hard work that people put into making them, but I have to make an exception for these (sorry!). They’re just about the worst smelling wipes I’ve ever encountered, and my nose has been traumatized, yo! 🙂 Think eau de dental office meets a box of old Band-Aids.

To their credit, these pre-moistened, alcohol-free wipes do feel wonderful and are able to cut through most of the makeup I’ve thrown at ’em (foundation, lipstick and eyeshadow) without leaving one of those funky towelette films, but I just can’t get over the scent…

I know Noxzema has a distinct trademark fragrance, but all up in my grill like this just stresses me out.

And the wipes could also use some help removing long-wearing eye makeup; they didn’t handle mascara or gel liners very well, and, oh, I learned the hard way not to use them on the waterline, where they sting a wee bit.

They’re not really my cup of tea, but hard-core Noxzema fans who 1) love the company’s trademark scent, and/or 2) don’t wear much waterproof eye makeup might fall in love. The price is right, after all. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C

LOL @ invigorating! Im not much for clinical or chemically scents but love clean, soapy fragrances. Given a choice between clinical smell and no smell – ill take NON anytime of the day! I will most probably give those a pass.

Ive been alternating Soap & Glory w/ the Kirland Facial Wipes … I must say given the price point, the Kirkland is winning by a tiny margin. 😀

I’ve head that those Kirland Wipes are the bomb.com.

One of these days I’ll pick some up!

    Hey Karen!

I had a similar experience with Neutrogena’s “hydrating” wipes – I loved the originals for quick pre-bedtime makeup removal and was suckered into the “hydrating” version by the pretty turquoise packaging. They are indeed hydrating, and leave my face feeling a lot less tight and dry, but MAN do they reek! The first night I used them I had a hard time falling asleep because I could smell my face! Complete and utter aroma FAIL.

Those do have a very strong scent! I don’t mind it so much, though. Anything’s better than menthol!

I’ve noticed that every Noxzema product I’ve used smells awful and doesn’t get the job done.

My mum bought me the blackhead clearing cleanser which actually made my skin oily-er for the week that I used it before trashing. I bought the daily cleansing cream since it was cheaper than the other options and it smelled horrible and never worked. Now Mum got my sister the cleansing pads and I borrowed one on a day I wass too lazy to wash my face. I ended up washing my face anyway because the stuff smelled so bad, left residue, and stung horribly. Mum swears by them, but it’s a miracle they stay in business.

At least they have cute packaging.

That’s true about the packaging. I’ve always liked the blue, and how minimalist it looks.

Camphor and menthol is horribly drying for your skin and they are well-known irritants.

      Ha ha!

I had a scary piano teacher too. I don’t remember what she smelled like! I do remember she had a wonky eye that was very distracting. Whenever I had to look at her I never knew which eye to stare at…

I had the misfortune to pick these up while looking for makeup removing wipes and I TOTALLY AGREE! They remove face makeup pretty well but they’re so strong smelling and anything with that much camphor and menthol always makes me nervous. =/

Eep! As soon as I saw they were Noxzema I cringed a little bit. Back in the day I used Noxzema cold cream and that stuff was strong. I bet they did set your eyes on fire 🙁

I use the Neutrogena cloths and I LOVE them. I haven’t found any others that remove everything I’ve thrown at them. They don’t bother my eyes when I take eye liner off of my water line and they get water proof stuff off without scrubbing. Good stuff.

UGH. i saw these at kroger today and decided to give them a try because i’m on a tight budget. i used one as soon as i got home… who in the hell decided to put menthol in something that is supposed to be used on your EYES? i instantly teared up, my eyes burned so bad. even after i flushed my eyes with water several times, i can still feel the menthol. what a terrible waste of money!
