Die „Matrix“-Macher schicken Natalie Portman in den Untergrund-Kampf gegen ein Fascho-Regime.

Die Regie-Brüder Wachowski sind diesmal nur als Autoren und Produzenten aktiv, trotzdem trägt der Film deutlich ihre Handschrift: Wie im „Matrix“-Kosmos geht es um den Ausbruch des Individuums aus den Zwängen einer rigiden Gesellschaft. „V wie Vendetta“ stellt eine Realität in Frage, die von Medien, Ideologien und Staatenlenkern geformt wird. Dass der Film einen maskierten Vigilanten zum Helden erklärt, der im Kampf gegen ein fiktives britisches Regime mit Sprengstoff und Entführungen seine Ziele erreicht, dürfte jedoch nur konservative Kulturwächter irritieren: Zu offensichtlich ist dieser superheldenhafte V (Hugo Weaving) einem eskapistischen Comic-Universum entlehnt, um ernsthaft den aktuellen Terrorismus zu reflektieren.Doch wenn Natalie Portman als seine unfreiwillige Helferin zögerlich ihre Ängste ablegt und sich von der Kraft revolutionärer Ideen mitreißen lässt, erhält „V wie Vendetta“ das, was der „Matrix“-Trilogie letztlich fehlte: Herzblut statt nur Mindf*ck.

Fazit

Werkgetreue Verfilmung von Alan Moores Kultcomic, die gelegentliche Geschwätzigkeit durch Stilsicherheit und Radikalität kompensiert
