‘DanMachi,’ also known as ‘Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon’?, was originally a light novel series written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. Due to the popularity of the light novel, an anime adaptation has been developed. ‘DanMachi’ is about a young adventurer named Bell who idolizes a powerful swordswoman named Ais. After Ais saves his life, Bell is determined to become as strong as her. The catch? Bell becomes the center of affection for various girls, including Ais and even the deity Hestia, who is also part of his adventure group. So, it’s a mix of adventure, romance, and the pursuit of strength.
Currently ‘DanMachi’ anime franchise consists of four seasons, one movie, 3 OVAs, and a spinoff anime series, and today, we’re going to tell you how to watch them in the correct order.

Are all ‘DanMachi’ seasons & OVAs connected? What is the best way to watch them?
All seasons and OVAs of ‘DanMachi’ are absolutely connected all form one continuous timeline and are set within the same continuity. While each season may have its own specific arcs and challenges, they contribute to the overall development of the characters and the world. ‘The Arrow of the Orion’ movie is however not canon and can be skipped even though it has its own place in the timeline. It’s not connected to the main narrative.
If you’re new to the ‘Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?’ franchise, your best bet is to watch the series in the release order. However, if you’re an avid reader of light novels and you’re already familiar with the timeline, then we recommend the chronological approach.

Now, the chronological order of ‘DanMachi’ franchise is pretty straightforward with two issues: the Sword Oratoria and the ‘Arrow of the Orion’ movie. Sword Oratoria is a spinoff that takes place simultaneously with the first two seasons but retells the events thorough the point-of-view of a different character. ‘The Arrow of the Orion’ is not canon, as stated by the author himself, but if you’re a purist, you should know that it takes place sometime before the events of the second season of the anime. The first three seasons of ‘DanMachi’ can be found on Hulu, Apple TV, and HIDIVE, and the fourth season is as of now, available only on Hulu and HIDIVE. Some seasons are also partially available on Crunchyroll.
OVAs can only be found on HIDIVE, with ‘Arrow of the Orion’ being also available on Crunchyroll. The spinoff Sword Oratoria is, as of yet, available only on Amazon Prime Video and on HIDIVE. Keep in mind that if you’re looking for the perfect place to watch everything related to ‘Is it Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?’ your best is HIDIVE. Otherwise, you need several different subscriptions.
Will there be more seasons of ‘DanMachi?
Season 5 of ‘DanMachi’ was announced on November 4, 2023, and is currently in the works. We’re going to update this as soon as we have more information, but yes, there will be more seasons of the anime.
